Oh my GOD. Y’all, it’s happening. Lost Soul Aside is FINALLY dropping on May 30 after nearly a DECADE of development. From a one-man dream project to a Sony-backed blockbuster, this game has gone through it all. And now, IGN sat down with Yang Bing, the guy who started it all, to spill the tea on the journey, inspirations, challenges, and what makes this game worth the hype.
So buckle up. This one’s gonna be wild.
Back in 2014, Yang Bing was just a dude with a dream. A Final Fantasy x Devil May Cry mashup, but with his own vision. Fast forward a bit, and in 2016, his trailer BLEW UP. Like, viral viral. Sony saw it. Sony wanted in. And suddenly, dude goes from solo dev in Korea to leading a full-ass studio, Ultizero Games, under Sony’s China Hero Project.
Bro was 26 when this whole thing started. Imagine grinding for 10 years on a game and actually making it to launch. Absolute respect.
If you’ve somehow never heard of this game, imagine this:
Insanely fast combat – flashy, stylish, Devil May Cry-level movement.
Your dragon companion turns into weapons – like, straight-up shapeshifting mid-fight.
A world that blends fantasy & realism – think FF with more edge.
Yang Bing says the core vision never changed from 2016 to now. Still that slick action RPG feel. Still insanely polished movement and combat. Weapons switch instantly, combos cancel seamlessly, and it’s all about making everything feel buttery smooth.
He wanted Lost Soul Aside to feel good. And after 10 years of fine-tuning, we BETTER be out here chaining combos like gods.
Okay, so imagine this. You drop a trailer on YouTube. It blows up. Then you get a DM from PlayStation like:
“Hey, wanna make this a real thing?”
That’s literally what happened. Sony reached out in 2016, flew him back to China, and BOOM – Ultizero Games was born. The game kept evolving, the team kept growing, and now Sony is PUBLISHING it. That’s how much faith they have in this thing.
According to Yang Bing, it’s all about the flow. Every attack, dodge, weapon switch – it’s all seamless. No janky animations. No awkward combat breaks. Just pure, unfiltered action.
Oh, and the two main characters, Kaser & Arena? Arena is a DRAGON that transforms into weapons. Like, Mid-fight. Dude, what.
He said he got the idea way back before he even started the game, after seeing some VFX artist on YouTube do a crystal transforming into weapons thing. And now it’s become one of the biggest features of the game.
Bro started ALONE. Like, coding everything, designing everything – solo. Then suddenly, he’s leading a full studio with Sony involved. He had to learn how to work with a whole-ass team, manage a full dev cycle, and make sure this game actually HAPPENS.
And after 9+ years, it finally did.
Originally, this was a PlayStation exclusive. But somewhere along the way, the convo with Sony shifted. PC made the cut. Because, let’s be real – action RPGs THRIVE on PC. It’s just facts.
So yeah, day one release on PS5 & PC. No waiting. No delays. Just straight-up double platform goodness.
Right now? All focus is on launching Lost Soul Aside.
After that? Who knows. Yang Bing says they’re in constant talks with Sony about what’s next. But right now? It’s all about May 30.
Man. Imagine starting a game in 2014. Grinding for a decade. Getting Sony’s backing. Then finally launching it on PS5 & PC. If that’s not the definition of hard work paying off, I don’t know what is.
Will Lost Soul Aside be the next big action RPG?
Will it live up to the hype?
Will Arena the transforming dragon become gaming’s next GOAT companion?
We’re about to find out. May 30. Be ready.
